The word 'Akashic' is derived from the Sanskrit word akasha, which means ether. In esoteric beliefs and practices, the Akashic records are "expressions of divine intelligence to which we are all deeply connected. [They are] a compendium of pictorial records or 'memories' of all events, actions, thoughts, and feelings that have occurred since the beginning of time. They are said to be imprinted on Akasha, the astral light, which is described by Spiritualists as a fluid ether existing beyond the range of human senses" [1].
As Frances Billinghurst, tutor at the College of Psychic Studies, notes, the hidden Akashic library houses a record of: "every single soul's journey [along with] thought, emotion, intention, and possibility. [It is] a mystical realm that holds the key to understanding our past lives, our future potentials, and the deepest truths of all existence. It is a vast cosmic memory that holds every action, thought, emotion and intention of every single soul in every incarnation; an energetic field or vibratory database. As such, it is an ever-expanding, ever-changing consciousness that reflects the inter-connectedness of all beings" [1]. Moreover, as Frances points out, researchers conducting state-of-the-art scientific studies into: zero point energy fields, quantum entanglement, and holographic theory, are arriving at concepts that are on a par with ancient teachings (including the Akashic Records). - Further, using the example of holographic theory, "just as a holographic plate contains the whole image in every fragment, this means that every point in the universe contains the whole" [1].
Dating back to ancient times, the Akashic Records can be regarded as an ancient concept that is not tied to any single philosophy or culture. - Indeed, it can be classed as a phenomenon that links all. Moreover, various forms of teachings on the subject have come from all over the world [1].
One theory is that the light of Akasha sends out the waves of human imagination, feeling, thought and willpower. Moreover, it can be deemed as: "an ocean of unconsciousness to which all are linked, making prophecy and clairvoyance possible" [2].
Over time, we may be able to find our soul's purpose by visiting the Akasha. "When you enter the Akashic records you are entering the soul's blueprint. You can learn why you choose specific experiences, relationships, challenges, and blockages, by looking through the Akashic records" [3]. Indeed, the great American psychic and medical clairvoyant, Edgar Cayce, noted that: "Despite their etheric nature, we can experience, hear or read the information. He said that this was helpful in understanding the lessons and opportunities gained through our lived experiences, as well as wounds and shadows that can be brought for healing" [4].

In it, Julia gently guides you into a light hypnotic state in order to help you reach the Akashic realm (which she refers to as the vibrational library of our soul). This cannot usually be achieved the first time, and like meditation in general, it takes regular practice. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and just enjoying and listening to the lovely meditation alone can be very beneficial for coming into a state of peace and stillness.
